Thoughts & quotes: productivity & efficiency

22.09.2024 Podcast Modern Wisdom on Spotify with Dr Andrew Huberman (#836, The New Science Of Longevity, Resilience & Breaking Bad Habits - link).

I love this definition of what is efficiency! I always knew that!

Efficiency is how much you get out compared to how much you put in. When you do something with your passion, by definition you get more than you put in, which means you are more efficient!

He referred to the quote of Joe Hudson what is joyful efficiency (link).

Things are not what they are. Things are what we think they are. Frame is everything.

15.09.2024 For a manual repetitive task that I needed to do (search in LinkedIn for 412 cold contacts to generate leads before going to the expo) I used the trick "20 min":

  • I set the times for 20 min;

  • during this time, I did ONLY my task, no notifications, no mailbox, nothing else - just my task. Fully focused! Full force!

  • After the alarm, switch to other duties.

Manual repetitive tasks are not my strong side and this trick helps ne a lot to deliver the result and not to destroy my nervous system :)

24.07.2024 SEARCH INSIDE YOURSELF by Chade-Meng Tan (link).

A good reminder:

  • A stress itself is not that harmful, but the helplessness we feel in the face of stress. The takeaway is to identify aspects of the situation that I can actually change or influence. This will immediately reduce the burden.

What I take for myself:

  • Happiness is not something you need to strive for. It is something you can simply allow to BE.

  • Attention is the clear and focused keeping of something in the mind.

  • Our attention is the greatest gift we can give to another person.

  • Tame your emotions like a horse: practice the Grid. Strong feelings pass through the grid like steam without lingering.

  • We cannot stop the flow of thoughts from being born. But we can let go of thoughts. Immediately release negative thoughts and harmful attitudes after they arise. It's like writing on water: you write, and everything disappears right away.

  • The importance of mindful breathing. Breathe as if it is the most important thing in life.

09.07.2024 I love these questions to a hiring manager on a job interview (link):

Role:

- Why are you hiring?

- What's the (real) job title?

- What needs to be done?

- What's the career path?

- Immediate fires to put out?

- Who is the direct Manager?

- What is the ideal candidate profile?

- Is there equity, if yes, what's the plan?

- What's the package, and when is commission paid?

Company:

- What's the revenue?

- Describe the culture?

- When the was the last funding?

- What are the company's objectives?

- Can I speak to one happy employee?

- How much cash runway do you have?

- How much received in the last funding?

Clients:

- Who are the larger clients?

- How many clients are there?

- What is the Net Promoter Score?

- What is the customer churn rate?

Business:

- What is the target?

- What is the com plan?

- Who are the buyer personas?

- What is the economic model?

- What is the average size deal?

- What is the average sales cycle?

- What is the sales motion? (inbound or outbound)

What I usually ask on interviews:

- where is my place in org structure?

- what is the first challenge to solve asap for this role? (to see where to focus and check is it an interesting challenge for me, is there a spark)

- what profile are you looking for? all candidates are professional, but what impersonal skills, profile, background you would like to add in your team. With this question I check do we have a match with company's culture.

10.05.2024 Saw these questions in the workshop "Landing a Job in CS Now" sponsored by South Asian Success, Ruffday Services, CustomerXSuccess and Melo Associates (link).

Saving it here, because there are simple 5 steps for own self-consciousness. I already made my homework and I have them written and reflected, and I found this exercise VERY practical and useful! I read somewhere, but can not found a quote, but it was by Timothy Galpin - a triangle of personal efficiency:

  • Joy

  • Self-development

  • Results

Truly outstanding results come after you understand where do you get a spark in your work, what drives you and challenges you. Then, you will see them achieved.

07.05.2024 Saw an interesting diagram here, good questions! I write weekly my Personal Strategy, review it and set my focus for next week; will challenge myself with these questions.

26.03.2024 Zoho Notebook (I used freemium account) deleted most of my notes, it is super frustrating! almost all my notes just vanished, with no reason or warning - is it a bug? Before switching to pay account at Obsidian or Ever Note, I land with Google Keep for now.

21.03.2024 I started practicing lately "my own" time in silence. Previously I used to train in the gym with audiobook or intensive trans music; also walking in the forest with a cool podcast. Now I switch to walk / train just with myself, empty hands, open heart, clear mind.

Feeling good and much more refreshed.

Tricky thing when mind is going to jump and thoughts are buzzing around as bees, but gentle focus helps to return to "here-and-now".

10.03.2024 Women in Customer Success PowerUp: #1 Masterclass: Goal Setting and Career Paths in 2024 (link for members PowerUp).

Speakers:

My takeaways from the masterclass:

  • start Smile File (will collect it simply in my Notebook by Zoho) - a folder on your computer housing all the kudos, goodness and positive "stuff" that happens in a year. It is something to reflect on, and in many cases can be very effective with review writing for leaders;

  • also this framework - will reflect on it! I set goals and move forward in my life, but this concept with 4 quadrants is very interesting. More granulated. I like it.

06.03.2024 The importance of doing nothing and have the habit to be be bored - from here:

When I’m not distracted or multi-tasking, simple tasks like taking a walk in nature or preparing my food become deeply spiritual practices. I feel connected with my body and the world around me, and this makes the silence feel like a blessing.

05.03.2024 Heard it there:

when you speak 4 times slower and weigh every word, your decisions improve by 8 times.

28.02.2024 Working with ideas.

Started to use Notebook from Zoho.

My main idea here to organize my way working with ideas around me. When I read something interesting in news or from influencers, I make a screenshot. But I rarely find time to sit and evaluate, have my thought about it. Why should I have tens of screenshots if I don't use them?

So, what I do now - I upload ideas, thoughts, questions, links to Notebook (super convenient, it has mobile app and desktop app too). I store all of them at the same place. And once a day and I make time for myself (15 min) and sit with my paper notebook and write my thoughts.

23.02.2024 Just finished my paper notebook that I used in 2023 / 24. Feeling good :) Feeling of accomplishment. Priceless!

Weekly Personal Strategy or What I write in paper notebook.

Morning pages and similar freewriting routines are not for me (I tried), so, every sunday I sit with my paper notebook, in piece, with good jazz music, coffee and ask myself:

  • review of last week: where did I waste my energy? what went wrong? chances I have not used fully?

  • review of last week: what brought me the most of energy, joy? where did I succeed? which door I opened, opportunities I found, new creative path I created?

  • my big picture: my big vision who I am and where do I go, how do I live.

  • focus for the next week: 2-3 areas where I will put my attention next week.

With this weekly Personal Strategy sprint I feel better, like I steer the wheel of my life. I feel more conscious. And I see the progress, so, it is relieving too.
